FairPlay UPI Deposit Not Credited After Debit

Your UPI payment was debited but the FairPlay deposit is missing; learn how to trace it with the UTR, check its status, and use the RBI failed-payment timeline.

One evening in Pune, you choose UPI to add funds to your FairPlay account ahead of a cricket match. The UPI app shows the rupee amount as debited, yet the FairPlay balance is unchanged. You may even receive a bank alert while the deposit page still shows the old balance. Do not make another payment yet. First establish whether the UPI request failed, is still pending, or actually succeeded. The FairPlay deposit page explains the normal route; this guide covers the case where the bank has taken the money but the deposit has not appeared.

Check the UPI status before making another deposit

A debit notification is not the same as a successful deposit. UPI involves the payer bank, the UPI switch, the receiving bank and the FairPlay payment record. Any one part can finish later than the others, so the source account can show a debit while the receiving record is not final.

  • Open the transaction history in the UPI app you used, not just the SMS or lock-screen alert.
  • Read the transaction status carefully: Success, Pending or Failed. Apps use slightly different wording.
  • Match the amount, date and recipient UPI ID with the deposit you intended to make.
  • Check the source bank account entry and note whether it says posted, reversed, pending or failed.
  • If the status is Pending or Failed, do not submit a fresh deposit simply to make the FairPlay balance change.

If the UPI app now shows Success but FairPlay is unchanged, move to the UTR tracing steps below. If it shows Failed and the amount has not returned, keep the failure reference and contact the bank that debited you.

Why a debit can exist without a FairPlay credit

A typical explanation is a timeout between the bank and the UPI network. The source account may be debited before the final response reaches the receiving side. The payment can then succeed, fail and reverse, or remain pending while the bank investigates.

  • The payer bank debited the account, but the confirmation did not reach the receiving side before the request timed out.
  • The receiving bank or payment gateway processed the request later because of network trouble or maintenance.
  • The FairPlay record did not attach to your account because the recipient details did not match the intended deposit.
  • A repeated tap created separate payment requests, each with its own reference and status.
  • The bank placed the amount on hold while it awaited a final UPI response.

None of these outcomes can be identified from a debit alert alone. A screenshot proves that the source account showed movement at that moment; it does not prove the final UPI status or establish that the wallet must be credited. The status and UTR settle the question.

Find the UTR and keep it exact

The UTR, usually shown as the UPI Transaction ID or UPI reference number, is the unique trace code for the payment. It is more useful than a generic debit screenshot because the bank and payment teams can use it to locate the transaction in their records.

  • Open the completed or pending transaction in the UPI app and choose the transaction details view.
  • Copy the full UPI Transaction ID or UTR. It may contain both letters and numbers.
  • Check the bank statement for a UPI reference, which can differ from the bank's own transaction number.
  • Save the status, timestamp in IST, amount, source account and recipient UPI ID.

If two references appear, send both and label which came from the UPI app and which came from the bank. Do not shorten the UTR, change a character or rely on a manually typed version when you can copy it.

Never share your UPI PIN, OTP, password or full card details with support. A legitimate trace needs the reference and transaction proof, not your authentication secrets.

What to do in the right order

Work through the payment in this order so that the bank and FairPlay are checking the same transaction.

  • Wait while the status is Pending until the bank or UPI app gives a final result. Repeated attempts can create separate debits.
  • Save screenshots of the transaction details, debit entry and current FairPlay balance.
  • Contact the remitter bank first with the UTR. It can tell you whether the funds were reversed, sent or still being traced.
  • If the bank says Success, contact FairPlay customer support with the UTR and proof, and ask it to check the receiving-side credit.
  • Record the bank complaint number and the time you raised the complaint in IST.

Use FairPlay customer support for the account-side check and the FairPlay FAQ for usual deposit questions. Keep the bank complaint separate from the FairPlay ticket so each team can trace its part.

What the RBI turnaround-time rule actually means

RBI's rule for failed digital payment transactions requires banks to ensure that the amount is credited or reversed within T+5 days from receipt of the customer's complaint. T is the date the bank receives the complaint, not the date or time of your UPI attempt.

The framework also provides compensation of ₹100 for each day of delay after that T+5 window, without requiring a separate claim from the customer, subject to the applicable rules.

This is a redressal deadline for a failed payment after a complaint. It is not a general settlement promise that every UPI deposit must appear within five days of the debit.

If your bank has marked the transaction Failed and the money has not returned, lodge a complaint through an official bank channel and retain the complaint number. If the status is Pending, ask the bank to trace it to a final status. If the status is Success but FairPlay has no credit, give the UTR to FairPlay support and ask the bank to confirm the destination.

The RBI timeline helps you seek resolution, but it does not replace the UTR. The bank and support team still need the reference to identify the exact payment.

What details to send FairPlay customer support

Send enough information for the support team to match the payment to your account without sending unnecessary financial details.

  • Your FairPlay user ID or registered mobile number.
  • The UPI app and remitter bank name.
  • The transaction date and time in IST.
  • The amount in rupees.
  • The exact UPI UTR and any separate bank reference.
  • The current status shown by the UPI app and the bank.
  • Screenshots of the transaction details and debit entry.
  • The bank complaint number, if you have already raised one.

A debit screenshot alone may omit the recipient UPI ID and UTR. Send the transaction-details screen as well. Hide unrelated balances and account numbers while leaving the UTR, amount, status and timestamp readable.

Clear evidence reduces back-and-forth. Do not send repeated tickets with different screenshots; update the existing ticket with the UTR and complaint number.

If the amount is reversed, stays pending, or is debited twice

The next step depends on the final status, not on how the first alert looked.

  • If the status is Failed and a reversal is shown, follow the source bank's reversal status. A failed payment should not become a FairPlay deposit.
  • If the status is Failed but no reversal is visible, raise the bank complaint and use the RBI timeline from the complaint receipt date.
  • If the status is Pending, do not assume the money is lost. The bank must first give it a final status.
  • If the status is Success and the bank confirms the destination, ask FairPlay support to trace the receiving record using the UTR.
  • If two debits appear, treat each as a separate transaction and provide each UTR.

Do not try to correct one pending payment by sending another unless you are prepared to track both. A second successful payment can produce a second valid debit.

Reduce the chance of another missing UPI deposit

These checks will not remove every network problem, but they make the transaction easier to trace and reduce avoidable mistakes.

  • Use stable mobile data or Wi-Fi and keep the payment screen open until a result appears.
  • Confirm the recipient UPI ID and amount before authorising the payment.
  • Tap Pay once and wait for the status instead of tapping repeatedly.
  • Save the confirmation screen, not just the bank SMS.
  • Keep the bank app and UPI app updated.
  • Review the [FairPlay payment methods](/fairplay-payment-methods/) page if UPI continues to behave unexpectedly.

If one payment method repeatedly leaves transactions pending, stop using it for another attempt until the bank explains the status. You can review supported options rather than guessing.

The short answer

If a FairPlay UPI deposit is not credited after a debit, follow this sequence:

  • Check the UPI transaction status.
  • Copy the exact UTR.
  • Ask the remitter bank to trace the payment.
  • If it failed and was not reversed, raise a bank complaint; the RBI T+5 rule starts from receipt of that complaint.
  • If it succeeded, send the UTR and proof to FairPlay support.

Treat the debit alert as one piece of evidence, not the final result. With the UTR, timestamp, amount and bank complaint number, the bank and FairPlay can identify the same transaction and work towards resolving the missing credit.
