It is 9:45 on a Tuesday night in Bengaluru. The second innings of the IPL qualifier has just started, you have ₹2,000 ready on a chase market, and the FairPlay app throws a grey banner: "Account locked. Contact support." The match keeps running. Your money sits there. You cannot place the bet, you cannot withdraw, and the timer on the live odds is ticking. That moment is why this guide exists.
Why FairPlay locks an account
FairPlay does not lock accounts at random. Every lock follows a rule set that the compliance team applies automatically or manually. The most common triggers are straightforward. First, incomplete KYC. If you registered with a PAN card but never uploaded the Aadhaar selfie, the system will freeze the wallet once you cross the ₹10,000 lifetime deposit threshold. Second, mismatched payment details. A UPI handle that does not match the name on your PAN — say your PhonePe is linked to your father's account — will trigger an instant hold the moment you try to deposit or withdraw. Third, suspicious login patterns. Logging in from a Mumbai IP at 10 pm and a Delhi IP at 10:05 pm looks like credential sharing, so the risk engine locks the account until you confirm it is really you. Fourth, chargeback or failed UPI mandate. If a ₹500 deposit bounces because your daily UPI limit was hit, the system may lock the balance until the funds settle or you provide a bank screenshot. Fifth, bonus abuse flags. Opening multiple accounts from the same device to claim the joining bonus repeatedly will get every linked account locked.
There is also a regulatory layer. FairPlay operates under a Curacao licence, but Indian state laws vary. If the platform receives a notice from a payment gateway or a state authority flagging a specific user, the compliance team must lock that account while they review the request. They cannot tell you the exact legal reason — they are not allowed to — but the lock is real and it is not negotiable until the review closes.
How long the lock lasts
There is no single timer. A soft lock — triggered by a mismatched UPI name or a missing selfie — usually clears within two to four hours after you upload the correct document in the chat. The support agent verifies the image, matches the name, and lifts the restriction. A hard lock — triggered by a chargeback, a bonus-abuse flag, or an external regulatory notice — takes longer. The standard service-level agreement says five working days for a full compliance review. In practice, most hard locks in Maharashtra or Karnataka resolve in three to four days if you reply promptly with every document they ask for. Weekends add delay because the compliance desk in the Curacao office works Monday to Friday IST. If you write on Saturday night, the clock starts Monday morning.
Permanent closure is rare but possible. If the review finds that the account was used for arbitrage betting across multiple operators, or that the identity documents are forged, FairPlay will close the account and return any clean balance to the original payment method. They will not return bonus funds. You will receive an email with the decision and a reference number. That email is your only paper trail if you need to escalate later.
What support needs from you
When you open the chat — or reply to the lock email — have these ready. One, a clear selfie holding your PAN card next to your face. The PAN number must be readable. Two, a selfie holding your Aadhaar card (mask the first eight digits if you prefer; the last four plus the photo are enough). Three, a bank statement or passbook page showing the account holder name, IFSC, and the last four digits of the account number. It must match the name on your PAN. Four, a screenshot of the UPI app showing the handle and the linked bank account. If you use PhonePe, open the profile page, take the screenshot, and send it. Five, if the lock came after a failed deposit, a screenshot of the bank debit SMS or the UPI app transaction history showing the bounce. Six, if you logged in from a new device or city, a one-line note: "I was in Pune for work, used hotel Wi-Fi, same phone." That context saves the agent a round trip.
- PAN selfie — number visible
- Aadhaar selfie — last four digits visible
- Bank statement — name, IFSC, last four digits
- UPI app screenshot — handle and linked account
- Failed transaction proof — SMS or app history
- Travel or device note — one line is enough
Send everything in one message. Agents handle dozens of chats per hour. A complete first reply moves you to the front of the queue. A fragmented conversation pushes you back every time they have to ask for the next piece.
Getting back into your account
Once the lock lifts, you will not get a push notification. The banner disappears the next time you open the app. If you are unsure, open the FairPlay login screen and try your credentials. If the lock is gone, you land on the home page with your balance visible. If it is still there, you see the same grey banner and a "Contact support" button. Do not uninstall and reinstall — that does not reset the lock flag on the server side. It only wastes time.
If the lock persists after you have sent all documents, escalate through the FairPlay customer support page. Use the "Compliance escalation" dropdown reason. Attach the chat transcript reference number. The compliance team reviews escalations once per business day. You will get a reply on your registered email, not in the app chat. Check your spam folder — Curacao domains sometimes land there.
While you wait, do not create a second account. The device fingerprint and IP link will flag it instantly, and both accounts will be locked. If you need to place a bet on tonight's match, ask a friend who already has a verified FairPlay account to place it for you. Transfer the winnings back via UPI after the match settles. It is not ideal, but it keeps you inside the rules.
Preventing the next lock
Finish KYC the day you register. Upload PAN, Aadhaar selfie, and bank page before you deposit a single rupee. Use a UPI handle that matches your legal name — if your PhonePe is under your father, switch to a Google Pay or Paytm handle in your own name. Keep one device for betting. If you must log in from a laptop while travelling, message support first: "Travelling to Chennai tomorrow, will log in from hotel Wi-Fi." That note sits in your file and stops the risk engine from flagging the new IP. Never share your OTP or password. FairPlay support will never ask for your OTP. Anyone who does is a scammer.
If you hit a deposit bounce, wait for the money to return to your bank — usually two hours — then deposit again. Do not retry three times in ten minutes. The gateway treats rapid retries as fraud signals and locks the wallet. One retry after the refund settles is safe.
Finally, bookmark the FairPlay FAQ page. The "Account locked" section there mirrors what the agents see on their screen. Reading it before you chat lets you speak their language — "soft lock", "hard lock", "compliance review" — and that alone can shave hours off the resolution.
The grey banner feels like a wall. It is not. It is a checklist. Tick every box, send one clean message, and the wall comes down. Your balance is still there. The match will still be on tomorrow. And the FairPlay login screen will work again once the checklist is done.
